The TOPOS Outdoor Collection Borrows From Mediterranean Topography
If you’ve ever admired one of Zaha Hadid Architects’ (ZHA) creations – and who hasn’t? – the just-released TOPOS outdoor collection will have your eyes popping and your jaw dropping. Launched at Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week 2024, TOPOS is a collaboration between ZHA and iSiMar that brings together the brands’ respective expertise in design and materials to celebrate Mediterranean living at its best. The collection, comprising a chair and sun lounger, was designed for time spent with family and friends, whether it be by the sea, next to the pool, or in the backyard. It’s also perfect for commercial spaces, thanks to its strong durability.
TOPOS takes its name from the Greek word for place; its design elements drawing directly from the region’s geography and topography. Using contoured lines borrowed from maps and industrial design, the collection shares Mediterranean landscapes. A small taste of what it might be like to live there for those of us who can only dream about it.
Traditionally, topographical lines are used to measure elevation, but here they’re reinterpreted into something unexpected. The outdoor seating is defined by the ergonomics that are created by these lines, adapting to each individual’s comfort when in use. Here’s where the importance of materiality also comes into play, providing resilience and durability to support the dynamic seating designs and geometric expression. It’s a beautiful meeting of talents from ZHA and iSiMAR, giving us a unique way to enjoy contemporary outdoor living.
TOPOS is constructed using a specialized textured matte polyester powder coat on 100% recycled galvanized steel wire. Select the frame’s color from 32 finishes to match your current aesthetic, or add a pop for something new and unexpected. When used, upholstery fabrics are 100% dyed acrylic that’s water resistant and UV, fire, and friction resistant. Choose from 30 colors and textures to create something entirely your own.
The TOPOS collection is 100% recyclable, as each piece can be disassembled and repurposed after reaching its end of life. iSiMAR continues their support of the community and reducing carbon emissions by using only local suppliers for their recycled steel.
