Satu Maaranen

 

Satu Maaranen graduated in 2012 from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Her graduate collection won first prize at the prestigious Hyéres Fashion Festival 2013 by unanimous decision. She has also been recognised by the Elle Style Awards and the Designers’ Nest Awards. In spring 2014 she got awarded by Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Finland Alexander Stubb for Trendi FASHION EXPORT prize. The award is given to a young Finnish fashion designer, who has been working for internationalization of Finnish fashion during the past year. In 2015 she was nominated in the British Design Museum’s annual Designs of the Year Awards in Fashion category among 7 other nominees including Raf Simons, J.W. Anderson and Thomas Tait.

Her work has been featured in leading international titles including The Business of Fashion, Interview Magazine, L’Officiel, AnOther Magazine,Women’s Wear Daily, Untitled Magazine, Dazed & Confuzed, i-D, Marie Claire, Rodeo and various editions of Elle and Vogue. Her work has also been showcased in exhibitions and in print, including projects with filmmakers commissioned by Vogue Italia.

Before switching to fashion Maaranen’s backround is in art studies. She began her career at iconic finish design house Marimekko, at Christian Wijnants and in Italian textile house ERICA Industria Tessile Spa designing prints and making research for clients such as PRADA and Max Mara.

Marimekko named Satu Maaranen as Head Designer of Ready-to-Wear, Bags and Accessories in the beginning of year 2018.
