ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts
Once belonging to an eminent artist of the Edo Period, the land was residence to a village of artisans. The design takes inspiration from this heritage and the interiors are filled with art collections from all over Japan. The dramatic high-pitched ceilings in the tea lounge and lobby design were influenced by the historical architecture of the region.
Each area of the Resort features artisanal crafts specific to the ancient city of Kyoto, a celebration of this rich cultural capital. Iconic ‘urushi’ lacquerware, traditional ‘takezaiku’ bamboo weaving and copperware feature in the tea lounge, restaurant and bar.
The design of the rooms encourages a feeling of serenity and relaxation. By installing a framed, refined washi paper in a wooden lattice, we echoed the traditional Minka Japanese home into every room and suite.
The spa blends Japanese Zen culture and natural elements into the interior design. The feature wall ceramic depicts the shape of bamboo, reinvigorating body, mind, and spirit to welcome and encourage the philosophy of Japan’s healing tradition.
