No Footprint House (NFH)

The multi-award winning No Footprint House (NFH) is based on a modular component system that allows for a broad range of sustainable residential typologies. Since 2018, the project explores a variety of spatial and materialization solutions to cater for a broad customer segment.

Designed to function in different climates, the NFH combines layers of thermal and acoustic separation that can be applied according to local necessities. The project explores principles of bioclimatic architecture, which include a site-specific positioning, natural ventilation, solar shading and the possibility to harvest renewable resources for building operations and maintenance.

An important part of the project entails the development and integration of sustainable construction materials. The modular NFH toolbox was presented at various conferences and exhibitions, including the international conference on climate change by the United Nations and the Venice Biennale.

The project seeks for integral sustainability in terms of its social, economic and environmental performance.

A-01 (A Company / A Foundation)

A-01 is an interdisciplinary office for design and development. In a globally urbanizing society, we work at the borderline of city and countryside or help identifying new synergies among the urban and rural conditions. Our participatory design methodologies aim at the co-creation of integrally sustainable solutions by breaking the boundaries of a single professional perspective. We envision a long-term impact that involves economic growth with a responsible use of natural resources to support an equal social development in a high quality spatial surrounding. This complex set of factors is simply referred to as the 4E of integral sustainability: Economy, Environment, Equality and Engineering.

Each project is carried out with a custom-fit team of experts and collaborating entities to allow for a holistic approach that shapes our products, introducing A Company and its non-profit counterpart A Foundation as operational vehicles for research and communication, as well as design and consulting services.
