Statement on Routine Public Events for the Kyoto Global Design Awards
In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 on Climate Action, the Kyoto Global Design Awards is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting environmental responsibility within the design industry. Recognizing the vital role that design can play in combating climate change, we are implementing practical steps to make a meaningful impact.
To achieve this, we are extending the cycle of traditional in-person events such as award ceremonies, seminars, and discussions, which will now occur every three to five years. Regular activities will instead be conducted digitally and online to minimize energy consumption and environmental impact, supporting a low-carbon approach to our operations. This schedule will be adjusted as necessary based on global climate directives and outcomes from key climate conferences, ensuring our practices align with the latest in sustainability standards.
By reducing the frequency of large gatherings, we aim to cut emissions associated with travel, venue energy use, and event production. In the years between in-person events, we will celebrate and honor outstanding design achievements through virtual platforms, which allow us to reach a broader, more inclusive global audience while maintaining our commitment to sustainability.
Through these efforts, the Kyoto Global Design Awards champions SDG-focused carbon reduction, showcasing and uplifting designers who advance sustainable, responsible solutions. We believe that this initiative not only embodies our values but also sets a standard within the design community for how events can contribute to a sustainable future.
Thank you for your support as we move forward in this essential journey toward reducing carbon emissions and advancing environmental responsibility.
Sincerely,
Kyoto Global Design Awards Committee
